I've just installed the first update for IPB 3.0 - here's what the folks at Invision are saying about it:

Quote

This is the first maintenance release for IP.Board 3 and addresses the most critical issues discovered during the first large-scale usage of IP.Board 3's release. Also, IP.Blog, IP.Gallery, and IP.Downloads have received a maintenance update. Thanks to everyone who was an early-user of IP.Board 3.0.0 and reported issues that you came across.

Major Changes Since 3.0.0

Among many dozens of smaller bugs fixed, the following large changes and fixes have been made in 3.0.1 release:

  • View new content changes so its more like 2.3.6 where it's based off last visit. Option to use the 3.0 style in user settings.
  • Option to view search results in a view similar to a forum.
  • More filter and sort options with search
  • Optimized search and view new content to improve performance
  • Sessions not clearing in some PHP versions fixed. Will improve performance on those versions.
  • Language import / export system is much more stable now.
  • Slow queries in the Portal have been optimized.
  • Many Facebook Connect issues have been addressed.
  • PM counts being incorrect have been fixed.
  • Old media tag and quote tag issues impacting display of older posts fixed.
  • Watched content hook in sidebar resource usage addressed.

Hopefully, this means that some of the minor issues we've been having since the upgrade to 3.0 have been solved! Posted Image

it means that there are now two ways of viewing topics - the old ipb 2 way or the new way. It's an admin setting, so wouldn't worry too much about it :)

I believe our lovely AzhriaLilu is making one, with input from me and the others. Knowing Lee, she'll design something wonderful.

Here's a breakdown of what these thing mean.

* View new content changes so its more like 2.3.6 where it's based off last visit. Option to use the 3.0 style in user settings.
In the previous versions of IPB, when you clicked New Posts (now New Content) you would get new posts from the last time you did a search, or the topics you hadn't viewed or participated in. In IPB 3.0 they made it so when you clicked New Content (formerly New Posts), you would get posts from the beginning of the forum's time. Now it can be set as how the older version worked, which is better and less stressful on the server.

* Option to view search results in a view similar to a forum.

This allows an option to be set where search results look like a forum section, such as the Comedy section, and not a streamlined look like previous versions offered.

* More filter and sort options with search

More search options to allow users to narrow down what they're looking for. Imagine searching for something, but you get a thousand results. Well, by employing some of these fine-tuned options, you'll narrow down your search to a hundred or less results.

* Optimized search and view new content to improve performance

This is site related, and something both owners and users will enjoy. The search engine for IPB 3 was redone, and just recently optimized for faster and more efficient performance. It's like a car's annual tune-up.

* Sessions not clearing in some PHP versions fixed. Will improve performance on those versions.

This fixed a problem where user's wouldn't be able to login because they'd receive an error from the site saying their login was invalid. This has been fixed now.

* Language import / export system is much more stable now.

Different languages other than English for the written part on the site, not the posts, but the other things.

* Slow queries in the Portal have been optimized.

A portal is like a page that displays a lot of cool information at once to a user when he or she visits the site. This site does not have its portal enabled. But anyway, the search function for the portal was optimized to work more efficiently.

* Many Facebook Connect issues have been addressed.

Facebook Connect is users being able to connect to their Facebook through the forum software as a means of login authentication and other reasons. Any issues that were there have been eliminated now.

* PM counts being incorrect have been fixed.

After upgrading, some board owners found incorrect values to be present in PM counts, and other 'live' areas that use a query to update statistics, this was also fixed.

* Old media tag and quote tag issues impacting display of older posts fixed.

Old tags such as [youtube] or [google] or [quote] tags that were on the older install are now fixed. Sites found an issue with the updated quotes system, it's now been addressed.

* Watched content hook in sidebar resource usage addressed.

At the forum index, you'll see hooks on the right. One of those boxes were eating up resources, a memory leak of sorts. It's now been addressed and won't be causing problems for sites.

I haven't seen many boards running ipboard lately, but i'm really liking the software. It's really professional looking and just has that smooth look.

Good work guys.

Just out of interest, what forum software was being run before?
